Bonus Blog 7th and 8th

Due to it being "that time of year" when we are all stuck inside and the weather is nasty, I have decided to offer a blog bonus. In the comment section below, let me know what you think needs to happen to improve the overall quality of education in AMS. In other words, If you were principal, what would be the first few things you would change. Serious answers only please. Make sure you put your name on your response. I have to approve the comment before it is posted, so be patient, it may take a day or so to appear. Deadline for all comments is next Thursday, February 26th.

Parker,
What kind of stuff would you get for P.E.?

Anonymous said...

I would have it to where the students would have a wider range of electives. Like art, theatre, latin, and other stuff that might help them a lot in everyday life.. I know we have exploratory.. but i think this might help them find out what they want to do for a living. I think it would be really fun for them to do, and give them something more to look forward to in the day.. (:

If I were principal I would have longer time during class change.Because,5 mins just isnt enough time. And,Some class's don’t allow you to go use the bathroom. I think if you have to use the bathroom, you should be able to go. And I would set up more funn things for school that wouldnt make it so boring. (:

Hello Students! You didn’t think I would actually read these did you? Well I did and quite honestly for the most part I am very impressed with your thinking. I’d love to take a few minutes to address your concerns.
1. School lunches—Our lunchroom staff does an outstanding job of preparing our lunches. They serve over 1,400 lunches each day in addition to about half that many breakfasts. They have very limited funds. Also, everything they serve is regulated by the state, even to the amount they are allowed to serve. How about telling them “thank you” as you go through the line. You may never know how that brightens their day.
2. Longer time between classes—Sorry guys, that will not happen. Too much time is wasted between classes now.
3. Shorter time between classes—Great idea, that possibly will happen next year or sooner.
4. Putting all of your BEST friends in a class together—Well, that would be impossible since most middle school students change their best friends quite often. Too much drama.
5. More/variety of electives—I agree, we do need so many more. Unfortunately, funding does not allow us to hire more teachers for these positions. Hey, you guys will be paying taxes one day. Consider voting to raise taxes that will benefit schools.
6. Better PE equipment—Actually, we are working hard towards that goal. However, we have to learn to take care of the equipment we have. Much of it gets abused.
7. School Wide Pickup Day—Sounds like a great idea.
8. No dress code—You will always have to follow a dress code. It doesn’t matter how tough or how weak the dress code is, students will always try to “push it.”
9. Cell phones in class—Why?
10. Test to pass 8th grade—I love that idea. In fact, I think we need a test to pass each grade. Unfortunately, that is a decision that must be passed by the Board of Education.

I think I have addressed most of your comments. As I said earlier, well done. Your comments made me think about some things. Let me leave you with a thought. Many of the improvements that you spoke of will require a change of attitude from the student body. How about instead of using negative peer pressure you use positive peer pressure. Make it “cool” (or whatever the word is) to do the right thing, to act right, to behave right, and to take care of OUR school. That’s right, OUR school. Not mine, not the teachers alone. All of ours.

Dear Coach Taylor,
If I was a school principal, I would make many changes.
I would have it so that kids and teachers would each be able to vote on a lunch that they wanted once a week.
The second thing I would have is that on the school website, you would have the ability to see what your child's lunch account balance is and be able to pay online using credit and debit cards.
The third thing I would have is better P.E. equipment, such as a big air pump to pump up basket balls, soccer balls, etc.. Right now, we do not have an air pump, so any balls that were flat are probably still flat. The frisbees that the P.E. classes have to use are cracked/broken in the center, some of the footballs are going flat, and the soccer goals come apart easily.
Another thing I would have is the ability to do homework on the computer (like in e-mail) and send it in, and since most of the teachers are there early, they could check their email and see if the students e-mailed it in. This would save a lot of trees! lol!
Next to the last thing I would do, is make the classes more entertaining. More people would stay awake in class and get more out of class if there were more fun videos on the subjects that we are learning. Most students would be more likely to remember things for tests and such.
Finally, I would make it so that parents could check their kid's grades, so if they are doing poorly, they would have a chance to make up their grades before progress reports or report cards came out.

Coach Taylor, this is a bonus I just wanted to add. If I was on the BOE, I would make school only Tuesday through Friday. Though this would mean about 10 hours of school each day, students and teachers would end up with an extra day each week to spend with family, friends, etc... You would have the same time in school or work, but an extra day off each weekend would be nice to have.

Your favorite student :) Walter

hey coach sup dude,
I would of kept boys and girls in seperate homerooms for the 7th and 8th grade .
I would also put other waters and more juices in the snack machines, such as life water or propel and maybe even apple juice or orange juice.
:P
lots of love

Coach Taylor,
If I were principal, I would set up a plan for teachers to teach children in a way that they have less work, but they will also learn the topic in an easy manner. This way, students won't complain as much and hopefully their grades would go up.
I would also change the structure of the hallway lockers. I would make the lockers organized to where students can reach them and not have to wait for the person in front of them to get their books and objects for a long period of time.
I definately NOT allow students to talk on cell phones in class. Cell phones are too distracting to students as well as the teachers. Teachers usually have to delay class to deal with them. My punishment of talking on a phone or using it in a way different from telling time, I will keep them for a whole month. If someone wants to try and outsmart me by talking on it near summer break, the only way they'll ever get it back is if their parent or guardian comes and gets it from school(or my house). I'll also need proof of it being your parent or guardian.

If i were pricipal i would have a different dress code. i would not make it so stict but i would not make it inappropriate.I would let the children where holes with in them from mid thigh down. i would allow kids to have there belly button pirced but no nose ring.
i would allow them to wear sunglasses and things like that on there head. Just no bad signs.

If I were principal, I would raise money throughout the year to award students with good grades for their efforts. I would also raise money for teachers so that they can use it for their classrooms. What I mean by this is that they can buy games and other stuff to make their classroom more interesting.

if i was the principle i would probably improve the 7th and 6th grades homework by getting them ready for the 8th grades because we have so much homwork because we are trying to get ready for the high school and that makes us improve . . .

if i was the principle of ashville middle i would help the kids in 7th grade.because next year it will be tough.so i would get the 8th grade teachers to tell the 7th grade teachers what they need to work on and how they can prepare them for the next year.

If i was the ashville middle school principle, i would make the lunch room food tons better. (:
I would let the kids choose what they want to eat everyday.
Also i would make sure that every student that had trouble with a subject would have a tutor.

Ashville middle school needs are improvments. We would like to give the teacher more printing paper so we dont have to write notes just be giving to us so we can simply put them in our binders. We also need to have respect for our teachers. We need an art and music class available for anyone who wanted it.

I would allow cellphones in class unless our school grade averages got too low and if they did i would do what we do now with cell phones. Then i would put more supplies in our classes and give our teachers and students more to work with in classes. Then i would put more of a variety in our lunchrooms. In would be a little more expensive but it would be good and tastey. Then i would put more variety in our gyms......PAINTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
